Last night we held the final event of our Live Your Best Life series with lululemon athletica, surprising our ambassadors and community of influencers with a lively night of conversation, cocktails and (of course) collaboration at Soho House NYC.
Our founder Maneesh K. Goyal and partner at lululemon Julie Anderson kicked off the evening by describing the partnership we built this fall, working together to help people live their best lives through our common philosophies.
Maneesh then switched to moderator mode, guiding what turned into a hilarious and insightful conversation with our three panelists: Ambassador of Entrepreneurship for Nigeria and founder of Uncharted Play Jessica Matthews, Head of Social Innovation and General Counsel at Warby Parker Anjali Kumar, and EVP of Business Development & Partnerships at Superfly Presents Chad Issaq. Here are a few of our favorite pearls of wisdom they shared:
- “It can be easy to do things because you’re good at them and not because you want to. But as much as you strategize for your career, strategize for your happiness.” Jessica, everyone needed to hear this, thanks for saying it so perfectly!
- “There is no work/life balance, at least not in the kind of job I want,” said Anjali. She explained that she prefers the blend (the grey) because it means getting to push herself to be on the cutting edge.
- “One person’s risk is another person’s practical,” said Chad, reminding us that we should always push ourselves beyond our comfort zones
- “Just because you like someone doesn’t mean you have to collaborate,” said Anjali. Our panelists agreed that sometimes you have to be picky about your collaborations and only do what works for both of you.
To help foster collaboration among our attendees, we created a “Collaboration Station” where we paired people together based on the kinds of skills they brought to the table and who they were looking to collaborate with. We’re excited to see some of these new connections become future partnerships!
Our speakers (event collaborators, as we like think of them) smile for the camera.
After our panel, attendees mixed and mingled with each other and with our panelists.
Our favorite part, of course, was hearing the great time everyone had. Here are some of the tweets attendees shared.
